Artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, clean energy. These four sectors now attract almost half the value of every new investment project in the world. In 2020 they attracted 16%.
Where those projects land decides which countries build the industries of the future.
"Strategic sovereignty is built through investment — the right investment, in the right sectors, on the right terms," said Pedro Manuel Moreno, Acting Secretary-General of UN Trade and Development, opening the second Future Investment Conference in Xiamen, China.
"The more of those decisions that are taken with developing countries in the room, the better the chances that the industries of the future are built there."
The conversation continues at the World Investment Forum in Doha this October.
