Entrepreneurship for Migrants and Refugees
A refugee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) working in one of the top seafood restaurants in Kyiv, Ukraine. The restaurant, owned by a Ukrainian, was looking for African chefs. A local NGO saw the advertisement and organized an internship, which resulted in three refugees from the DRC received an offer of employment. UNCTAD, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) opened a photo exhibit in Geneva, Switzerland, on 18 November 2019 to show how migrant and refugee entrepreneurs contribute to the economic and social development of their host and origin countries. The exhibit was organized as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2019 and the photos were displayed in the Palais des Nations.
