Review of Maritime Transport 2024 - Press conference
Press conference of the launch of the Review of Maritime Transport 2024. Speakers: Shamika Sirimanne, UN Trade and Development, Director of Technology and Logistics Jan Hoffmann, UN Trade and Development, Head, Trade Logistics Branch UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) launched today the Review of Maritime Transport 2024: Navigating maritime chokepoints, which addresses critical vulnerabilities in global maritime routes, including the Suez and Panama canals. These disruptions, driven by climate change and geopolitical tensions, are putting global trade and supply chains at significant risk, with particularly severe impacts on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The report outlines urgent measures needed to strengthen maritime resilience, promote low-carbon shipping, and combat fraudulent ship registrations.
